Winterset Council schedules public hearing, advertises bids for 2026 street improvements

The Winterset City Council approved a resolution on May 4 to provide notice of a public hearing and solicit bids for the 2026 Street Improvements project. Council Member Michael Cook moved the resolution and Council Member Mary Ann Orr seconded; the motion passed on a unanimous roll-call vote.

The resolution, prepared with engineering documents from Veenstra & Kimm, Inc., states the proposed plans, specifications and form of contract are on file with the City Clerk. It fixes bid security at 5% of the total bid amount and delegates to the City Clerk the duty of receiving, opening and announcing bids. The resolution sets the public hearing and consideration of bids for May 18, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. in Winterset City Hall.

Council action follows routine project planning steps and authorizes formal advertising and bid collection needed to move the street improvements toward contract award. The resolution text instructs the City Clerk to publish notice in a newspaper of general circulation not fewer than four and not more than 20 days before the hearing.

Next steps: staff will publish the required notice and accept sealed bids as specified; the council will consider bids and hold the public hearing at the date and time set in the resolution.
