Dubois County approves INDOT paving contract and buys new pickup for highway fleet

Wendholt said INDOT requested the paving contract and recommended approval. Mechanic Max Hopf presented three government‑priced quotes for County Truck #111; commissioners voted to accept the low bid. Highway Superintendent Donnie Lueken requested approval to hire truck driver Kaden Bieker to start Feb. 10, 2025; that motion carried unanimously.
Lueken also reported a recent workplace injury in which an employee "fell through the grate on the sander hurting his shoulder," required surgery and will be out for approximately 12 weeks. He said the department held CPR and AED training with 22 employees participating.
The approvals were routine motions recorded as carried unanimously; no objections or roll-call dissent were recorded in the meeting minutes. The board did not specify financing beyond noting the truck would be funded from Cum Cap and that the paving contract follows INDOT procedures.
