Veterans ask county to expand office hours, space and staff at Veteran Services Office

Kenneth “Speedy” LeFevre, the county's Veteran Services Officer, read a prepared letter to the Dubois County Commissioners on Jan. 21, 2025, requesting a change in office hours, a larger and more functional office space, and additional staffing to better serve the county’s veterans. LeFevre said there are approximately 2,035 veterans in Dubois County and argued that expanded hours and staffing would help process claims and assist veterans with appointments and paperwork.
Daryl Hensley, commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 77, presented national statistics to support the need for additional staff to assist with claims processing and urged the county to consider keeping the office open Monday through Friday. Veteran David Flynn described critical issues affecting area residents and reinforced the case for flexible or extended office hours.
Commissioner Chad A. Blessinger said he would meet with LeFevre to discuss options and return the matter to the board at the next regular meeting for further consideration; no formal vote or funding decision was made at the Jan. 21 session.
