Dubois County commissioners on Dec. 16 adopted Ordinance 2024‑19 imposing a 10‑ton gross load limit on motor vehicles operating on county roads during the freeze‑thaw period from Jan. 15 through Apr. 15, 2025. The ordinance exempts Jasper 3rd Avenue from the Jasper city limits south to State Road 162 and makes violations a Class C infraction under I.C. 34‑6‑2‑85 and I.C. 34‑28‑5‑4; it takes effect upon publication as required by law.
Highway Engineer Brent Wendholt presented the ordinance and related highway items. The board also approved a transfer of appropriation of $8,000 from Workman's Compensation to Equipment Repairs to cover maintenance costs. Wendholt told the commissioners that Letters of Intent for National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) bridge inspections had been reviewed and scored and recommended awarding the inspections to SJCA, Inc.; the board gave Wendholt consent to proceed and will give formal approval once contracts are prepared.
The meeting also recognized Highway Superintendent Steve Berg for receiving the Highway Superintendent of the Year award from the Indiana Association of County Commissioners. Berg's retirement open house is scheduled for Dec. 20, 2024.
