Highway Engineer Brent Wendholt presented the department’s 2025 annual bid recommendations and briefed the commissioners on fleet‑tracking vendor options at the Dec. 2 meeting. The board unanimously approved the recommended bid awards for 2025 materials and supplies, which include pipe, geotextile, concrete, asphalt products, cold mix, and quarry stone price tables.
Wendholt compared a Verizon fleet option (quoted at $5,476.80/year) with a Samsara quote (approximately $7,341.60/year) and said Samsara provides more government‑oriented maintenance data and stronger customer service for counties. The board did not approve a Samsara contract on the spot; instead the consensus was for the County Attorney to review the Samsara contract and Verizon’s cancellation policy and report back at the next meeting.
Wendholt also requested and the board unanimously approved a letter naming him as Dubois County’s primary contact in INDOT’s ITAP system, replacing Steve Berg. He reported he is scoring NBIS bridge‑inspection letters of intent and that the county missed the current round of the Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program application by submitting one day late and will apply in the next cycle.
Commissioners carried the motion to approve the highway bid recommendations by unanimous vote.
