Lapeer County panel unanimously recommends confirming Jacky Bennett as permanent CFO

The Lapeer County Personnel Committee voted unanimously May 14 to recommend that the full Board confirm County Administrator Moses Sanzo’s appointment of Jacky Bennett as the county’s permanent chief financial officer, effective June 1, 2026.

Sanzo told the committee that “based on the excellent performance of Jacky Bennett, he will be appointing her as the permanent CFO effective June 1, 2026,” and cited her service as interim CFO since November 2024, the county’s successful recent audits and the Government Finance Officers Association Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting as reasons for the appointment. He also noted Bennett led the county’s conversion of its financial software from an AS400 system to the cloud-based BS&A system and said the Rehmann Firm has expressed confidence in her ability to handle the position.

The committee approved the recommendation on a motion by Commissioner Greg Wise, supported by Commissioner Gary Howell; the vote was recorded as unanimous. Committee members present were Chairman Brad Haggadone, Howell and Wise. Others at the meeting included County Administrator Moses Sanzo, Office Manager Doreen Clark, Administrative Project Manager Courtney Salet and Human Resources Director Natasha Kugler.

At the start of the meeting the committee approved its agenda and the minutes of the April 23, 2026 meeting. Sanzo also said item #5 on the agenda — a draft I.T. and email policy — was withdrawn and routed to the Properties Committee earlier the same day for suggested changes.

The Personnel Committee’s action is a recommendation; the full Board must confirm the appointment at a later meeting. The committee adjourned at 12:08 p.m.
