At its April 20 meeting, the Logan City Council approved several routine permits and administrative actions and set direction on utilities rates. Council Member Moss moved, and DeWitt seconded, motions that carried by recorded votes of three ayes for each item.
Approved items included closing 4th Avenue from 7th Street to 6th Street on June 6, 2026 for Village Green Day; authorizing Hansen House to park a trailer on Highway 30 for advertising purposes; advertising for a part-time seasonal mowing employee; and renewing an agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for maintenance and repair of primary roads within Logan.
The council also considered a request from Tianna Gibson (303 E 9th Street) to keep chickens and voted to table that request until a full council is present and until written permission from property owners is provided.
On utilities, Clerk Winther was asked to draft an ordinance proposing a 10% increase in water rates and a 3% increase in sewer rates for fiscal year 2026-27; the ordinance will return for council consideration.
The claims register was approved as part of the consent agenda. The claims list printed in the meeting record totals $32,487.12, distributed across funds including General ($10,436.92), Water ($8,960.27) and Sewer ($4,213.25).
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn, which carried; the meeting ended at 6:55 p.m.
