Jaffrey Select Board approves winter policy updates, authorizes auction of tax-deeded house and ratifies police contract

The Jaffrey Select Board on Jan. 14 approved a series of routine measures and scheduled follow-up actions. The board unanimously adopted updates to the Winter Operations Policy to reflect plow routing, overnight parking and salting adjustments related to Route 202 construction after a presentation by Superintendent Croteau.
The board authorized the town to hire auction services to sell the tax-deeded property at 118 Mountain Road, scheduling the auction for Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. Town Manager Jon Frederick said the town lacks in-house resources to market the sale; auctioneer costs will be deducted from sale proceeds. The board’s motion noted the town will only take the house in the tax deed and that any personal property inside would transfer to the buyer.
Selectmen also approved three resolutions by unanimous votes: Resolution #2026-1 adopting the 2025 Hazardous Mitigation Plan Update, Resolution #2026-2 ratifying changes to the police collective bargaining agreement, and Resolution #2025-38 approving a special event permit for the Monadnock Regional Milers Winter Chiller on Feb. 21, 2026. All votes were recorded as 3-0 (motions by Charles Turcotte, seconded by Andrew Lawn).
The board discussed — but did not finalize — a draft agreement with the Jaffrey Historical Society. Town Manager Frederick said the society seeks a 25-year lease at $2,000 per year and a first right of refusal if the building is sold; the board said it preferred a 10-year term and will seek town-counsel review of lease language regarding minimum lease length before any sale.
On procedure, the Town Manager reported a public hearing on Jan. 28 for the Fire Station bond and said the board will meet on Feb. 11 to vote on articles and certify the warrant. The board entered non-public session under RSA 91-A:3 II (j) at 7:45 p.m. and exited at 8:16 p.m., then adjourned at 8:16 p.m.
