Board approves ABE consortium, adopts visitor/distribution and rewards policies; hears facilities and program updates

The Saint Peter Public Schools Board on April 15 approved an Adult Basic Education (ABE) Consortium Agreement, adopted multiple district policies and received updates on facilities projects and school programs.

Community and Family Education Director Tami Skinner briefed the board on Adult Basic Education program status and successes before the board approved the ABE Consortium Agreement by roll call, 7–0. The board adopted revised Policies 903 (Visitors to School District Buildings and Sites) and 904 (Distribution of Materials on School District Property) on a second reading; the revisions add updated legal references and direct that related guidelines and procedures be included in Parent/Student Handbooks. Policy 907 (Rewards) was reviewed under the regular policy cycle and adopted by single reading with minor or no substantive changes.

The Policy Committee presented first readings of proposed revisions to Policy 623 (Mandatory Summer School Instruction) — which include removing the district requirement for mandatory summer school and correcting omissions — and Policy 908 (Volunteers), which adds mandatory background check procedures for volunteers; those items remain at first reading and will return for future consideration.

Superintendent Jon Graff updated the board on the Mend the Middle project, noting a Change Order Request approved under the district’s three-tiered process, and reported hail damage to specific district buildings and progress on a press box construction project. School reports included an announcement that North Elementary received a $20,250 Minnesota Department of Natural Resources 'No Child Left Inside' grant to support nature-based activities and that the high school reported a 95.1% graduation rate.
