The Cleburne City Council accepted the official canvass of the June 13 mayoral runoff and declared Derek Weathers the winner after staff explained a 100‑vote discrepancy as an adding error.
Ivy Peterson, speaking for election staff, told the council that a discrepancy between unofficial and official tallies resulted from an error in documenting the tally on the return (summary) sheet. She said the corrected totals were Derek Weathers 1,107 votes and Blake Jones 599 votes. "There was just an error in documenting the tally," Peterson said.
Mayor Scott Kane asked whether the canvassing committee concurred with the explanation; the committee did. Council moved to accept the results and declare the winner; the motion passed unanimously.
The council also noted a swearing‑in ceremony scheduled for Thursday at 06:00 at the Conference Center.
