Lisbon council advances sports complex grading, approves licenses and sets hearing on Chapter 41

The Lisbon City Council on July 28, 2025 approved several routine and project-related items, including moving forward with the grading option for Phase 2 of the sports complex and approving the consent agenda that included minutes, a list of bills and alcohol licenses for Family Dollar Stores of Iowa, LLC and Lisbon Sauerkraut Days, Inc.

The motion to advance Phase 2 grading was made by Nathan Smith and seconded by John Bardsley; the motion carried on a 4-0 vote. The consent agenda was approved after a motion by Nathan Smith, seconded by John Bardsley, and recorded as unanimous among the four members present.

Council also set a public hearing on proposed changes to Chapter 41 (Public Health and Safety) for Aug. 25, 2025 at 7:00 p.m.; the motion to set the hearing was made by John Bardsley and seconded by Kevin Steele and passed 4-0. The minutes do not include the proposed ordinance language or the scope of the changes.

Department reports provided operational updates: Public Works Director Travis Bagby reported seeding and matting related to a water-main project, scheduled asphalt work and tree trimming along Sauerkraut Days routes. Parks & Recreation Director Drayton Kamberling said fall sports registration is open, a scavenger hunt is planned for Sauerkraut Days, a movie in the park is set for Aug. 13, and back-to-school night is Aug. 21. City Administrator Brandon Siggins noted Phase 2 grading is nearly complete, EMR training was completed by staff, pancake breakfast planning for Labor Day is underway, and residents are reminded to have trash and recycling at the curb by 6 a.m. per the city’s contract with LRS.
