City Planner Katie Dunnigan presented three city-initiated rezonings during the Sept. 18 council meeting, and the council approved the items as presented.
Dunnigan said that when the zoning ordinance was updated in 2023, properties that had been zoned RIP (Residential Institutional Professional) were automatically placed into R4, which does not permit multifamily residential in some cases. Staff and the Planning Commission recommended correcting that outcome for properties that intended or currently contain multifamily housing.
The council approved rezoning the Point Grand Apartments from R4 to R5 so the existing multifamily use is permitted and similarly approved rezoning Wentworth Park Apartments from R4 to R5. Dunnigan also said the Fun Times Inflatables property is operating at a level of commercial activity not permitted under R4; staff recommended rezoning that parcel to C1 to reflect the existing use. The motions were recorded as approved unanimously.
No amendments or conditions to the rezoning approvals were recorded in the meeting minutes; staff and Planning Commission recommendations were listed as supporting the actions.
