Lisbon approves Sauerkraut Days plans, parks and library announce summer events

The Lisbon City Council on July 14 approved planning for Sauerkraut Days and the city’s 150th celebration, including temporary street closures and a splash pad closure for the duration of the event. The motion to approve the celebration planning was made by John Bardsley, seconded by Nathan Smith and carried unanimously among those present.
Parks and Recreation Director Drayton Kamberling said fall sports registration is open, described a planned scavenger hunt during Sauerkraut Days, and noted concessions will be run during a slow-pitch tournament. The Parks director also highlighted a movie-in-the-park scheduled for Aug. 13 and a back-to-school night on Aug. 21.
Library Director Elizabeth Hoover de Galvez thanked Public Works for installing a free library at the splash pad and noted several library events scheduled in the coming weeks. City Administrator Brandon Siggins reported logistics for the 150th celebration, including ordering 5,000 water balloons for tub races and planning a pancake breakfast for Labor Day; he also noted Fareway’s grand opening and work on street and ditch projects ahead of the event.
Council members thanked Public Works for their work on multiple in-house projects and discussed parking at the sports complex for celebration attendees. Mayor Doug O’Connor adjourned the meeting at 7:21 p.m.
