Planning commission accepts resignation, recommends Amy Stafne to fill vacant seat

At its Jan. 14, 2026 meeting the Sandstone Planning Commission accepted the resignation of Commissioner Tonya Johnson, who is moving out of town and whose term runs through 2027, and recommended that the City Council appoint Amy Stafne to fill the vacant seat.
The resignation was recorded during the New Business portion of the agenda; Amy Stafne had submitted an application for the position. Commissioner Bill Gaede moved and Commissioner Steve Palmer seconded a motion to accept Johnson’s resignation with appreciation for her service and to recommend the City Council appoint Stafne to the open seat. The motion carried 3‑0.
Administrator Kathy George provided Stafne with a copy of the City Code Book and additional informational materials and announced a virtual Planning Commission training offered through the League of Minnesota Cities for commissioners who are interested. The appointment recommendation will be placed on the City Council agenda for final action.
