Residents press River Ridge board to fix Pinehurst drainage as retention pond ponds

Residents urged the River Ridge Community Development District Board on July 23 to address ongoing drainage problems near the Pinehurst monument and a retention pond between River 8 and River 9 that a resident described as nearly 1 foot above its drain.
Resident Shari Perkins told the board the drainage problem persists a week after contractors plugged a pipe, with water overflowing the triangle monument area and accumulating over the drain. Perkins also relayed an email from resident Fred Kronke asserting that a retention pond between River 8 and River 9 appears non-functional and is ponding near the outlet.
District Engineer John Baker said plugging the inlet stopped water from being pushed from an upstream system into a lower one but left the water without an outlet, creating “essentially akin to a very tiny pond in a pipe,” and that resolving the issue will likely require additional study. He recommended documenting flooding with photographs or video to help staff diagnose the problem. Mrs. Adams said staff will direct the District Engineer to view the drainage firsthand.
A Board member asked whether there was video showing water bubbling out of the drain; Ms. Perkins said she would provide photographs and video to CDD staff. Resident Ed Nowak asked where the northern outflow terminates; Mr. Adams explained the water ultimately flows to the Estero River but that the pipes run between private properties, across the golf course and into a ditch that leads to the River Club, indicating multiple ownership and right-of-way interfaces that could affect remedies.
The board did not take a formal vote on a repair plan during the meeting. Staff will receive the photos and video from Ms. Perkins, the District Engineer will inspect the site and the Pinehurst inlet proposal will remain on the agenda for further consideration.
