Sauk Centre council approves elections roster, event permits, leases and routine payments

The Sauk Centre City Council approved a set of routine and event-related matters on May 20, 2026, including the appointment of election judges for the August 11 (primary) and November 3 (general) elections, event permits and road closures for Sinclair Lewis Days, a five-year lease renewal with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety for Civic Arena driver testing, and multiple license renewals and claims on the consent agenda.
Resolution No. 2026-40 appointed the city’s roster of election judges; minutes note eleven new party-affiliated judges were listed first and that party-affiliated judges will be utilized before other lists as required by Minnesota Statute 204B.21. The chamber’s requests for Sinclair Lewis Days — including a DJ/band with a beer garden, food vendors, fireworks staging, a craft fair, a chip-timed 5K, and a parade/car show — were approved as presented, with associated road closures on July 16–18 and related operational details to be coordinated with county staff.
The council approved a five-year lease renewal with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety for Civic Arena use for written and driver testing, increasing rent from $585 to $750 per quarter. The consent agenda passed and included unpaid claims of $261,652.00, April paid claims/payroll of $439,770.18, lists of liquor and 3.2 beer license renewals, cigarette license renewals, and gambling/exempt permit requests for community organizations. All of the listed consent and event items were approved by recorded votes of Acting Mayor Heidi Leach, Council Member Brad Kirckof and Council Member Scott Kowski; Mayor Stone and Council Member Fuechtmann were absent.
