Sauk Centre council moves forward on archery range, extends community garden and appoints new planning commissioner

Sauk Centre — The Sauk Centre City Council approved several park and personnel items March 18, including moving forward with a public archery range, extending the community garden for another year, appointing a new planning commissioner and awarding a fire hall painting quote.
The council approved the Park Board’s recommendation to proceed with an outdoor archery range east of the Public Works shop, accessible from the bypass road once constructed. The planned range will include benches, tables and targets at multiple distances; broadheads will not be allowed. Public Works Supervisor Ben Clink said he had met onsite to lay out a probable design and that donations have been offered to cover costs. The motion to move forward was made by Council Member Scott Kowski and seconded by Mayor Warren Stone; it passed unanimously.
The Park Board recommended and the council agreed to extend the community garden’s public use for one additional year, with the caveat that garden maintenance be improved. The Park Board will revisit the issue in early 2027.
Council appointed Christopher Klinkhammer to the Planning Commission, effective March 19, 2026, with the term expiring December 31, 2028. The appointment was made on a motion by Council Member Joe Fuechtmann, seconded by Council Member Brad Kirckof, and approved unanimously.
For the Fire Department, two quotes were received for interior block wall painting. Lakeside Painting submitted a quote of $14,500 and Colorful Concepts quoted $19,400. Council approved Resolution No. 2026‑21 accepting Lakeside Painting’s quote; Council Members Joe Fuechtmann and Scott Kowski abstained from that vote while the other members voted in favor.
