During other business on Aug. 19, a staff member updated the commission on recent City Council actions and upcoming code work.
The staff update noted several consent items had passed at the last council meeting, including a grading permit for 3245 Wayzata Boulevard; staff said the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency told the city it would regulate the slope of the contaminated-soil mound and that the council included a condition limiting the berm slope to a 25% maximum. “MPCA who noted that they would regulate the slope of that berm to a 25% maximum,” the staff member said, summarizing the council condition.
The update also said the council discussed a text amendment that would add buffering requirements for cannabis businesses; staff expects that text amendment to come to the planning commission before the end of the year. In addition, the council is continuing work on possible changes to the average lakeshore setback—staff said the council may direct a longer public process and additional outreach if code amendments are pursued.
Finally, staff announced that planner Natalie Nye will be leaving the city; the staff member thanked Nye and the commission offered appreciation. “She's been a great addition to our team…this will be her last planning commission,” the staff member said. A commissioner thanked Nye for her work as a planner.
No formal action was taken on the updates; they were provided for information and potential future work sessions.
