The Charlestown Board of Public Works on April 2 approved a $5,000 claim to Lincoln Springs Tree Farms Incorporated to plant 30 mature trees in city parks.
The Chair told the board the payment will be made from the parks revenue fund and reimbursed by a Department of Natural Resources grant. "We received a Department of Natural Resources $5,000 grant to plant trees, actually planting those today," the Chair said during the meeting.
Parks staff said the delivery includes thirty 15-gallon trees, many already 8 to 10 feet tall, intended for Greenland Park, Little League fields, the Family Activities Park, the square and Canobyl Park to provide shade and replace failing specimens.
The board approved the consent-item motion to add the claim to the agenda and then approved the minutes and claims, including the tree payment, by unanimous vote.
The trees were described as being planted under supervision of the local park manager and staff on site the same day; no additional city funding beyond the reimbursable grant was approved at the meeting.
