Commission approves deck setback variances for North Shore Drive property

The Orono City Planning Commission granted rear- and side-yard setback variances for a proposed ~360-square-foot deck at 2080 North Shore Drive (LA 24-35) after staff concluded the substandard lot size and existing home placement presented practical difficulties.
“Because the home is already closer than the required rear setback, any deck placed on the rear of the house would require a variance,” Planning staff (Miss Nye) said, adding that staff was supportive of the request and that neighborhood acknowledgment forms were included in the packet. No members of the public spoke for or against the application.
Commissioners agreed with staff’s practical-difficulty analysis and approved the application as applied by voice vote.
