The representative said Martin's House and Barn housed two families in the past month and has three additional families currently progressing through housing applications, with expected moves to stable housing within about two weeks. She told commissioners the grant allowed the shelter to hire a case manager and to pursue enhanced grant-management capacity that supported multiple capital improvements, including installing over 61 windows; additional renovations are expected to begin in July.
She also said Martin's House and Barn secured an $88,000 opioid-response grant and will act as lead to channel some funds to two smaller organizations (one in Denton and one in Federalsburg) to support Midshore Recovery and Hope, a recovery house for women, and the DC Center for transportation and bed nights for recovery.
Commissioners praised the organization’s grant management and outcomes, and County staff and commissioners discussed sustainability and potential long-term funding strategies for case management given turnover and hiring challenges.
