Commissioners approve two outdoor license expansions for Chop Tank River Yacht Club

The Caroline County Board of License Commissioners on June 24 approved two temporary expansions of the licensed premises for Chop Tank River Yacht Club to accommodate live concerts this summer and fall.
Staff presented the club’s request and displayed a site plan showing the current licensed boundary and the proposed extension. Applicant David Whalen told the board the request is a roughly 60-foot expansion into the grassy area of the parking lot to allow patrons to reach a food truck with beverages while remaining inside the licensed area. "Pretty much a 60-foot extension," Whalen said.
The board approved a June 27, 2026 concert by the Haywire Band, with hours from noon to 11 p.m. to allow time for band setup and post-concert cleanups. Later in the meeting the board approved a second event — the FuzzBox Piranha concert scheduled to begin Sept. 12 and run through midnight on Sept. 13, 2026 — with the same 60-foot expansion and similar timing allowances.
Commissioners discussed parking and boat access and were told the applicants will leave openings to allow boats to be launched and retrieved. No members of the public registered opposition to the applications during the hearing.
The motions to grant the temporary expansions and the events were moved, seconded and carried by voice vote. Staff said it will send a letter to the club documenting the board’s approvals.
