North Middleton secures park planning grant, pursues $3.2M bridge funding and approves building repairs

North Middleton Township officials on May 21 said the township received several planning and infrastructure updates and approved a set of vendor quotes and time extensions related to development and facilities.
Manager John Epley reported the township received a Local Share Account (LSA) grant that will fully fund a Parks Master Plan with no local match. Per GMS, the township was placed on an initial list to receive $3.2 million toward repair or replacement of the Post Road bridge; staff described a full rebuild at an estimated cost of about $7 million and said GMS is pursuing federal grants to cover a required local match if awarded.
The board also heard that BL Engineering has completed boundary and topographic surveys for the landfill and that the township received the first grant reimbursement for landfill work. Two Brubaker bond‑reduction requests (Phase 2 and Phase 3) were tabled because Doug Brehm had not approved them.
On land‑use items, the board approved a time‑extension for the Pine View preliminary land development plan (the agenda lists an extension to August 31, 2026 while the recorded motion approved an extension to May 31, 2026; the transcript shows the motion carried) and approved a time extension for Conditional Use Plan 2026‑01 at 1958 Spring Road. The board approved a Financial Edge NXT quote for 10 hours of additional accounting training (cost to be split with the North Middleton Authority).
For facilities, Manager Epley said the township’s HVAC system (installed 2015) has required roughly $135,000 in repairs since 2017 and the building reached 89 degrees during the week; the board approved a Tri‑State quote to replace compressors and repair air conditioning (quote recorded as over $8,000). The board also approved hiring Jonah Beck for the Highway Department effective June 1, 2026.
