North Middleton police earn accreditation recommendation; board authorizes conditional offers to two recruits

Chief Gary Carver told the North Middleton Township Board of Supervisors on May 21 that accreditation inspectors are expected to recommend the department be accredited for another three years and that the department faces imminent staffing changes.
Carver said at least two officers are leaving: one corporal has accepted a position elsewhere and will depart in June, and a sergeant is retiring May 31, 2026. To address staffing, Carver requested authorization to make conditional offers of employment to two candidates who would attend the police academy (classes begin in July with a December graduation). He also noted state grants are available for tuition and pay reimbursement and that the township will receive a grant for a cadet currently attending the academy.
Supervisor Barry Sherman moved to authorize Chief Carver to extend conditional offers to the two candidates; Supervisor Rick Hoover seconded and the motion carried. The motion permits the chief to proceed with hiring contingent on completion of background checks and academy enrollment; the meeting record does not include candidate names, conditional offer terms, or a formal vote tally.
The board did not take additional personnel actions at the meeting beyond the authorization to make the offers.
