Maple Grove Park Board approves consent items, donation and procedural motions; several items sent to Council

The Maple Grove Parks and Recreation Board handled routine business and several actions on Feb. 19, concluding with unanimous voice votes on multiple items.
Agenda and consent: Director Chuck Stifter noted a modification to Old Business requiring a motion to remove an item from the table. Vice Chair John Ferm moved, Board Member Deb Syhre seconded approval of the agenda as amended; the motion carried on a voice vote (seven ayes). Board Member Judy Hanson pulled Item 6D for comment (a $1,000 donation from USA Figure Skating earmarked as a scholarship for former skating student Selena Wang). Hanson moved and Board Member Krista Kuhnly seconded acceptance of Resolution No. 26-027 accepting the donation; voice vote: seven ayes, motion carried. The remaining consent items (minutes, claims, fee waiver, subdivision) were then approved as amended.
Other actions: The board voted to accept the Northwest Maple Grove Park Planning Master Plan (motion by Chair Bill Lewis, seconded by Board Member Judy Hanson; seven ayes), and later recommended the City Council advance Rice Lake Trail preferred options into final design and cost estimates (motion by Board Member Ken Helvey, seconded by Board Member Andy Mielke; seven ayes). The meeting adjourned on a unanimous voice vote at 9:00 p.m.
Administrative notes: Director Chuck Stifter announced the upcoming retirement of long-time staff member Laurie Stock, effective March 2, 2026. Staff also highlighted upcoming events, seasonal openings and a March 16 ribbon cutting for Community Center signage and lighting.
