Committee updates Solarize outreach and flags state bills affecting clean-energy goals

The Clean Energy and Sustainability Committee on Dec. 9 discussed progress on Solarize Chelmsford and related clean-heat outreach, flagged pending state legislation that could reduce clean-energy goals, and confirmed committee representation on the town’s low-impact development working group.
Badhri told members that in early November a bill had been filed that would reduce the state’s clean-energy goals and that other bills are circulating addressing how net metering is measured by utilities. He and Nicholas are working to gauge business interest in rooftop solar in North Chelmsford and the Drum Hill area and have spoken with a company called Sun Well about a proposal for installations at 10 Wilson Street (senior housing) as well as parking lots and religious institutions. Jackie said she is interested in helping with Solarize but will be on leave through January and February.
Committee members also noted that Badhri is assisting the town’s low-impact development working group as the committee’s representative and that Peter will join that effort from the Conservation Committee. The minutes record no formal vote or policy action on the Solarize proposals during the meeting; next steps appear to be continued outreach and public vetting of proposals.
The committee set a tentative January 2026 meeting date (around Jan. 13) depending on quorum and adjourned at 6:00 PM.
