Prairie City council approves FY25 budget amendment, sewer-inspection contract and sets stop-sign hearing

The Prairie City City Council met in special session Oct. 15 and unanimously approved a fiscal-year 2025 budget amendment, authorized a 2024 sanitary sewer televising and cleaning agreement with CIT Sewer Solutions and set a Nov. 13 public hearing on proposed stop signs for E. Jefferson Street.

City Administrator Jerry Moore told the council that the published budget amendment required technical corrections before republishing: funds listed on line 20 for Community and Economic Development should be moved to line 19 (Culture/Recreation), and an unused $2,500 enterprise allocation intended for Public Safety was omitted from the balancing calculations and must be added to lines 10, 12, 16, 24 and 25. Councilor Emily Simmons moved to approve Resolution 10-15-24-2 with those corrections and make the amendment effective upon republishing; Councilor Joe Disney seconded and the motion passed on a unanimous roll-call vote of the three members present.

The council then approved a contract with CIT Sewer Solutions to perform televising inspections and cleaning of the city's sanitary sewers and lift stations for 2024. Councilor Simmons moved to approve the agreement; Councilor Disney seconded. The vote was unanimous.

Finally, the council set a public hearing for 6 p.m. Nov. 13 at Prairie City Hall to consider adding stop signs on E. Jefferson Street for eastbound traffic at S. Marshall Street and for westbound traffic at S. Main Street. Councilor Joe Disney moved to set the hearing; Councilor Emily Simmons seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

There were no public comments or correspondence submitted during the budget hearing. Mayor Chad Alleger and Councilors Derek Ingle and Deb Townsend were absent. The meeting was called to order by Councilor Phil Holland at 5:30 p.m. and adjourned at 5:36 p.m.
