Chattahoochee Hills’ Parks Commission reported March 3 that the city has secured two grants totaling $487,329 to build the Wheel Beautiful universal-access trail in New RiverLands Park and to expand Campbellton Park by permanently preserving 79 acres.
Commissioner Giff Beaton said the city received $234,982 from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division specifically for paving the trail with pervious rubber‑modified asphalt; combined with a Recreational Trails Program award, the two grants total $487,329. Parks Commission Chair Diana Wilson thanked partners including the Trust for Public Land, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation.
Commissioners also recognized volunteers who clear blowdowns and maintain trails at Cochran Mill Park, Campbellton Park and other sites; Roland Alston noted the city will host the ninth annual Sweep the Hooch on March 21. The commission reported recent ribbon cuttings for New RiverLands Park and Campbellton Park and a memorial bench installation at Hutcheson Ferry Park.
