MSD of New Durham Township board approves 2021 capital plan, bus replacements, personnel changes and two eLearning days

The MSD of New Durham Township School Board on Sept. 23, 2020 approved its 2021 Capital Projects Plan and a 2021 Bus Replacement Plan and enacted several personnel and calendar actions during a meeting that lasted roughly 11 minutes. Board President Karen Jedrysek called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and adjourned it at 6:11 p.m.
The board voted to approve personnel items that included resignations from Ashlee Spurr (girls junior varsity basketball coach) and Shari Szilagyi (high school science teacher) and recommendations to hire Taylor Richardson and Sarah Reed as substitute teachers, Alexis Rager as a full-time custodian, Robin Hershman as a cafeteria substitute and Amie Rager as an elementary instructional assistant. Vicki Hannon moved the personnel slate and Secretary Lynn Wilson seconded; the minutes record that the motion carried.
The board also approved professional leave requests, including attendance by Allisa Schnick at the IASP Fall Conference. Wayne Hodge moved approval of the professional leave requests and Board President Karen Jedrysek seconded; the motion carried.
Donations were accepted in two items: a $750 contribution from Pinkerton to support a staff luncheon and a $205 donation from Westville Correctional Center/American Legion for elementary community service. Vicki Hannon moved acceptance and Lynn Wilson seconded; the motion carried.
As part of a public hearing on the 2021 budget, the board adopted the 2021 Capital Projects Plan. Secretary Lynn Wilson made the motion to adopt the capital plan and Wayne Hodge seconded; the minutes state that the motion carried. The board then adopted the 2021 Bus Replacement Plan after a motion from Board President Karen Jedrysek, seconded by Vicki Hannon; the motion carried.
Financial reports were presented to the board for information only; no action was recorded on the financial statements at the meeting. Westville Middle/High School sent correspondence thanking the Popard family for a donation to provide lunch for staff, which the board recorded.
At the end of the meeting Mrs. Jedrysek requested—and the board approved—an amendment to the calendar to designate Oct. 2, 2020 and Nov. 3, 2020 as eLearning days. Lynn Wilson moved to amend the agenda and Wayne Hodge seconded; the motion carried. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. in the Media Center.
The meeting minutes list Linda Wiltfong as interim superintendent and note the district mission: "Inspire, Challenge, and Educate."
