Board approves $37,500 United Way grant, directs advertising of 2021 budget hearing Sept. 23

The MSD of New Durham Township board approved a $37,500 Student Virtual Supports Grant from United Way of LaPorte County at its Sept. 9 meeting. The motion to accept the grant was made by Mark Parkman and seconded by Vicki Hannon; the minutes state the motion carried.
Treasurer Mrs. Stachowiak reviewed the 2021 budget, the district’s Capital Projects Plan and the Bus Replacement Plan and asked for permission to advertise a public hearing on those items for Sept. 23, 2020. The board voted to advertise the public hearing after a motion from Mark Parkman and a second from Board President Karen Jedrysek.
Mrs. Stachowiak also described savings related to the district’s solar project and said she would contact Performance Services and NIPSCO to clarify savings and ensure internal controls are in place. The board accepted the district’s financial report later in the meeting following a motion by Parkman and a second by Wayne Hodge; the minutes record that the motion carried.
The minutes do not list roll-call vote tallies for the grant acceptance or the advertising motions; each motion is recorded as “motion carried.” The public hearing was scheduled for Sept. 23, 2020.
