Interim Superintendent Linda Wiltfong recommended that students at MSD of New Durham Township return to full-time, in-person classes beginning Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020, while allowing families who prefer remote instruction to remain virtual. The recommendation came during the board’s Sept. 9 meeting. Wiltfong also congratulated two teachers who recently received awards and reviewed the district’s re-entry and safety planning. Board President Karen Jedrysek emphasized the importance of maintaining safety, meeting state standards and keeping an open line of communication with families.
Board members and staff discussed mask use, procedures that would be followed if there is a positive COVID-19 case, and the district’s criteria for permitting volunteers when the county is in the state’s “green” status. Wiltfong said the district sought to keep operations as safe as possible while resuming in-class instruction.
The board did not record a formal roll-call vote tied to the recommendation in the minutes; the minutes reflect the superintendent’s recommendation and the board’s discussion. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 14, 2020.
