Commissioners review school levies, split fire/road mills and authorize intercap loan paperwork

Commissioners and staff reviewed the school trustees’ financial summary, discussed mill-levy calculations and agreed to split certain levies between fire and road funds to give each fund clearer, dedicated revenue. Staff explained that splitting the mills produced a modest change in taxable values but provides predictable annual funding lines for budgeting.

The board also considered fire-department needs. Fire Chief Neil described requirements to replace a truck with a single-axle, four-wheel-drive chassis fitted with a tank, pump and hose reel; staff estimated available cash on hand and discussed a likely purchase and equip cost in the mid–tens of thousands range.

Separately, the board moved and approved Resolution 2024-14 and then authorized signing intercap loan drawdown paperwork with the Board of Investments; commissioners approved the paperwork by voice vote with no opposition and attested to a requested draw amount.

Commissioners instructed staff to continue budget preparations, monitor state entitlement changes that could affect county revenues, and pursue vehicle and equipment procurement with attention to vehicle size constraints and long-term replacement planning. No substantive change to school budgets was adopted at the meeting beyond preparing the customary forms and calculations for the upcoming fiscal cycle.
