Pennock council tables maintenance hiring and boulevard-tree plan, approves 3,200-gallon propane contract

Mayor Kevin Crowley called the meeting to order and the council handled several routine and personnel items at the Sept. 3 Pennock City Council meeting.
Council member Jeff Arends moved, and Council member Bruce Bastin seconded, to accept the agenda with an item reordering that moved the maintenance-position discussion to the top of new business; the motion passed. Following that, Council member Jeff Arends moved to approve the consent agenda (including Aug. 6 minutes and payment of September bills); Council member Bruce Bastin seconded and the motion passed.
Under old business Clerk Dawn Johnson presented a quote from Stacy's Nursery for boulevard trees, planting and mulching; Council member Karen Skaggs moved to table the boulevard-tree item until the October meeting, Council member Kerry Gross seconded, and the motion passed.
In new business the council was informed that the city's maintenance employee submitted a resignation with a last day of Sept. 30, 2024. The council reviewed a proposal for contract labor but took no hiring action; Council member Jeff Arends moved to table the maintenance-position decision until October, Council member Bruce Bastin seconded, and the motion passed.
The council also approved a fuel contract: Council member Jeff Arends moved to purchase 3,200 gallons of propane from Dooley's Petroleum at $1.59 per gallon; Council member Kerry Gross seconded and the motion passed.
With no further business, Council member Jeff Arends moved to adjourn; Council member Karen Skaggs seconded and the meeting adjourned at 7:47 p.m. Official minutes will be approved at the next meeting.
