Prairie City approves park donation policy, selects picnic table, awards maintenance contracts

The Prairie City Council approved several park and maintenance items on Dec. 11, including a clarified donation policy, a picnic table purchase, and multiple maintenance contracts.
The Park Director presented a donation policy that clarifies types of acceptable donations (benches, tables, signs), donor recognition, maintenance responsibility and time limits. Councilor Derek Ingle moved to approve the policy and the council approved purchase of a cedar-colored single-post picnic table (4SPT Series) at $2,031.
The council reviewed three lawn-care quotes and awarded the 2025 lawn-care contract to TruGreen for $14,253.67, rejecting higher bids from Kelly George Turf & Irrigation and Allen Lawn Care & Landscaping. Council also reviewed Maguire Iron—s $220,000 five-year water tower maintenance plan (blast and repaint year one, inspections and scheduled work in subsequent years) and approved adding the plan to the FY26 CIP.
The Prairie City Economic Development Commission recommended branding guidelines from LS2 Group; the council accepted those guidelines as presented. Council tabled a proposed audio-equipment purchase (approximate cost $1,500) to the January meeting. The council adjourned at 8:51 p.m.
