Commissioners pause sale of Peerless Ballpark pending cleanup and facility repairs

Commissioners discussed the Peerless Ballpark, including an appraisal and possible sale. Several commissioners said they preferred to delay listing the property until the Fairboard and community could clean stalls, address lighting and door repairs, and present a plan for managing any sale proceeds. Commissioners noted that proceeds from a sale would be recorded in the parks fund (account 2210) and discussed whether funds could be earmarked in a capital reserve for park improvements; staff said earmarking is possible but requires commissioner authorization for expenditures.

The board did not authorize a sale at the meeting and instructed staff and the Fairboard to pursue cleanup and small repairs before pursuing bids or listing. Commissioners discussed options for using sale proceeds for a capital reserve to repair stall doors or improve access, and emphasized the need for clearer facility management before any transfer of ownership.
