Pierz council approves treasurer and claims reports, Food Shelf rent grant and $1,000 Freedom Fest donation; Initiative Foundation request deferred

The Pierz City Council approved the December treasurer’s report showing a balance of $3,603,382.73 and a December claims report totaling $490,850.75. Both reports were accepted by unanimous motion.
Council adopted Resolution #2026-0112-01 to provide a Food Shelf grant for annual rent; the motion (moved by Lynn Egan; seconded by Sarah Fyten) carried unanimously. City Administrator Laura Wacker reported the city received the second half of property taxes and is preparing auditor requests and annual bills.
Wacker also brought forward a $1,000 donation to Freedom Fest; the council approved the donation (moved by Lynn Egan; seconded by Sarah Fyten). Council discussed a donation request from the Initiative Foundation and, noting it was not included in the 2026 budget, agreed to pass on the donation for 2026 while suggesting staff consider it during 2027 budget planning. Council Member Lynn Egan also acknowledged a $20,000 donation from the Pierz Lions toward the new playground at Pierz Park and noted the Lions are pursuing two additional grants on behalf of the city.
All motions were recorded as carried unanimously in the minutes.
