Northfield reports road resurfacing done, fire station renovation underway, hydrant repairs pending

The Village of Northfield received several departmental updates at its May 24 council meeting that concern infrastructure and public safety.
Engineer Daniel Collins told councilmembers that the Ohio Department of Transportation micro-resurfacing project on State Route 8 from Ledge Road to the south village line was completed the prior week and that reflective markers are expected to be placed next month. He also reported the Fire Station Addition and Renovation Project began last week and is progressing smoothly.
Fire Chief Jason Buss reported that hydrant flushing for the year is complete but that three hydrants are not operating properly; the department is waiting on Cleveland Water to perform repairs. Chief Buss asked council whether any hydrant sandblasting and painting should be scheduled this year and noted that aesthetic preferences vary.
Service Superintendent Jason Walters said road patching will begin soon, May Clean-Up Month is proceeding, property-maintenance enforcement is ongoing, and new No Parking signs have arrived and will be installed according to an engineer-prepared placement map.
These updates identify short-term operational follow-ups: scheduling hydrant repairs with Cleveland Water, starting road patching, and carrying out committed cleanup and fence work at 199 Ledge.
