Pennock council approves consent agenda, hears sheriff’s report and discusses park maintenance and covenants

The Pennock City Council met Feb. 4 at 7:00 p.m. at the Pennock Community Center. The council approved the meeting agenda and the consent agenda, which included the Jan. 7, 2025 council minutes and payment of February bills.

Deputy Meghan Dimler delivered the sheriff’s report, noting 62.75 deputy hours in December and 48.75 hours in January. The data were provided for the council’s information; the transcript records no follow-up motion tied to patrol hours.

Under new business Clerk Dawn Johnson told the council that the Covenants and Restrictions for Dirk’s Fourth Addition are recorded at the Kandiyohi County Recorder (dated Sept. 21, 2006). She said that to amend those covenants the city would need notarized signatures from every property owner who benefits from the covenants — that is, each property owner within Dirk’s Fourth Addition. No formal action to amend the covenants was taken at the meeting.

Council member Bruce Bastin raised concerns about general park maintenance and suggested removing the park on 5th Street NE and replacing it with twin homes, presenting a potential future land‑use option for council consideration. Council member Shane Dillabough separately asked whether the city could install signs to promote bringing businesses to Pennock.

The council closed the regular meeting at 7:33 p.m. to discuss the maintenance employee’s wages; the wage motion and subsequent adjournment are recorded separately. The meeting adjourned at 7:43 p.m.; official minutes will be approved at the next meeting.
