Prairie City council OKs siren project funding and approves EMS/Fire building change order

Prairie City councilors voted unanimously Aug. 14 to approve a $29,472.09 change order for the EMS/Fire building and to move forward with a city siren project using reallocated funds.
Council approved Change Order No. 2 for the EMS/Fire building project (motion by Derek Ingle, second by Phil Holland). Councilor Emily Simmons asked that future change orders be approved before the work is carried out for consistency.
Separately the council approved an amendment to the Capital Improvement Plan and Resolution 8-14-24-3 to proceed with a siren project. City Administrator Jerry Moore said he will contact Jamey with EMA to explore grant options. Council approved using $102,220 that had been allocated for Fire/EMS building water service but was unused to cover the siren project costs (motion by Simmons, second by Ingle). The motions passed on unanimous roll-call votes.
Why it matters: the siren project is presented as a public-safety investment to improve emergency notification across Prairie City; the change order moves forward construction work on the new EMS/Fire building.
