State representative offers audit assistance and funding partnerships for North Miami

A visiting state representative, who identified himself in the meeting as Rep. Fab/Fabi Masabi, addressed the council about constituent concerns he27s received regarding spending, procurement and no-bid contracts and offered two forms of help: return to present a legislative update, and use the Judicial Legislative Auditing (JAC) committee for a comprehensive systems and operations audit at no direct cost to local taxpayers.
Rep. Masabi said he had put appropriations into the budget for cities in his district and described the audit option as a tool to increase transparency. "It's the Judicial Legislative Auditing Committee...they do a comprehensive systems operational full fully comprehensive audit of a municipality," he said. He invited the council and administration to work with him to strengthen ties with Tallahassee and pursue grants and appropriations for infrastructure, resiliency, economic development and public safety.
Council members thanked him and asked for specifics about dollar amounts; the representative said the exact figures were not at hand and he would text the council the numbers. One member described "about a million" in funding from him and others as an approximate tally. The representative said he would be available for a town hall and return with a formal legislative update when the state budget is finalized.
Next steps: Council and administration accepted the offer to coordinate and indicated staff would follow up with the representative for a legislative briefing and potential audit coordination if the council chooses to proceed.
