Maurice council sets March 20 public hearing on proposed property tax rate; approves agenda and consent items

At its Feb. 18, 2025 regular meeting, the Maurice City Council voted to set a public hearing on the proposed property tax rate for Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. at the Maurice Community Center. Councilmember William Korver moved to set the hearing and Sharon Vermeer seconded; the motion passed by unanimous vote.
Earlier in the meeting the council approved the posted agenda on a motion by Roger De Weerd, supported by Sharon Vermeer, and approved the consent agenda on a motion by William Korver, supported by Roger De Weerd. The consent agenda included the minutes of the Jan. 21, 2025 regular meeting, the treasurer’s report and bills for approval. The minutes list January disbursements totaling $26,876.04 and receipts totaling $21,685.71.
Under old business the council reviewed responses from the City Attorney regarding FLSA laws and tabled further review until the next meeting. Public Works Director Jeff Van Der Weide provided a written report and the council reviewed a proposed letter to residents concerning planting trees in city rights-of-way. The council also discussed advertising to recruit a Summer REC Coach; no formal motion or funding allocation for that recruitment was recorded in the minutes.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn by Roger De Weerd, supported by William Korver; vote: all ayes. The next regular council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 7:00 p.m.
