Northfield council confirms two police sergeants and adopts 2024 tax budget

The Village of Northfield council on June 14 confirmed two mayoral appointments to the rank of police sergeant and adopted the village's tax budget for the fiscal year beginning Jan. 1, 2024.
The actions were taken after the legislation was read by Diane Calta of the Law Department and the council voted to suspend the three-reading rule for each emergency resolution. For Resolution No. 2023-22, confirming Corey Zidlicky as police sergeant, Alan Hipps moved to suspend the readings and Jesse Ferko seconded; the suspension passed by roll call. Hipps then moved to adopt and Ferko seconded; roll-call votes recorded Ferko, Noack, Magistrelli, Hipps and Lewis as yes and Vojtush as yes for the personnel measures, resulting in adoption.
The council followed the same procedure for Resolution No. 2023-23, confirming Joseph Beltrami as police sergeant. The motion to suspend readings was made by Hipps and seconded by Vojtush and the motion to adopt was moved by Renell Noack and seconded by Hipps; roll-call votes were recorded as yes by the voting members present and the resolution was approved.
Council also approved Resolution No. 2023-24, adopting the annual tax budget the village will submit to the county fiscal officer. Diane Calta read the ordinance by title; Hipps moved to suspend readings, Ferko seconded and the council adopted the resolution after a motion to adopt by Noack with a second from Vojtush. The resolutions were characterized on the record as emergency measures and were approved by roll call.
Council approved the minutes of the May 24, 2023 meeting earlier in the evening. The minutes were adopted on a motion by Councilmember Renell Noack, seconded by Alan Hipps. Roll-call votes were Ferko-yes; Noack-yes; Vojtush-abstain; Magistrelli-yes; Hipps-yes; Lewis-yes.
The council noted the swearing-in ceremony for the newly confirmed sergeants is scheduled for June 22 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, and that Ground Xero is holding a grand opening on June 23 at 5:00 p.m.
The council adjourned at 7:58 p.m.
