Mayor William Gillespie opened the Feb. 11 meeting of the McCausland City Council and reviewed the city’s first draft budget for fiscal year 2025. Councilmember Stewart moved and Councilmember Claussen seconded a motion to hold the required Tax Levy public hearing on Monday, March 31 at 6:00 p.m.; the motion passed unanimously.
The mayor told the council the draft budget shows a shortfall in some funds and recommended relying on Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) receipts to make up part of the gap. Council discussion did not record a change to revenue assumptions; council scheduled a special meeting after the March 31 tax-levy hearing to set the date for the budget public hearing.
The tax-levy hearing is a statutory step required before the levy is finalized; the transcript does not specify the levy rate or the dollar impact on taxpayers. Council did not take a final vote on the budget at this meeting.
City Clerk Sheila Bosworth and the mayor will carry forward the administrative steps required before the next public hearings. The council adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
