Sudbury School Committee elects Karyn Jones chair after contested reorganization vote

Betsy Sues subsequently moved to appoint Karyn Jones as chair and Jessica McCready as vice chair; the motion passed 3-2 on a roll call vote (McCready, Sues and Jones voted aye; Sim and Burnard voted no). Karyn Jones acted as chair for the remainder of the meeting.
During discussion, Member Karyn Jones said she supported having an opportunity to serve as chair, while Member Nicole Burnard expressed concern about changing the chair during ongoing negotiations. Member Jessica McCready said she wanted to “start fresh” with new leadership, and Member Betsy Sues said she supported the combination of perspectives Jones and McCready would bring to the Committee.
After the leadership vote, the Committee reviewed and approved amended liaison and subcommittee assignments.
The reorganization outcome is an internal governance change; the Committee did not take formal policy action beyond appointing new leadership and confirming subcommittee assignments.
