Beaver Crossing trustees award lease, approve event closure and several maintenance actions

At its June 12 meeting the Beaver Crossing Village Board awarded the lease for the Old City Shop, approved a Main Street closure for Beaver Days, and approved several maintenance payments and purchases including mowing pay and infield conditioner to address ballfield needs.
The Village Board of Trustees of Beaver Crossing met June 12, 2024, at Village Hall and approved a series of routine actions including awarding a lease for a municipal building, authorizing a street closure for a community event and approving several maintenance-related payments.
Chairman Jerry Zieg called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Trustees present were Jere Leif, Lance Breitkreutz and Mike Banks; JP Black was absent. Clerk/Treasurer Peggy Pankoke and Maintenance Supervisor Alex Kohout also attended.
The board held a lease auction for the Old City Shop at 609 West St. after Chairman Zieg read the lease terms. Bidding opened at $100 per month and closed at $150 per month; the lease was awarded to bidder Alan Stutzman. Trustee Lance Breitkreutz moved to rent the building to Alan Stutzman for $150 monthly, with Trustee Mike Banks seconding; the motion passed on a 4-0 roll call vote.
The board approved routine administrative items: corrected and approved the May 8 regular meeting minutes, approved the Planning Commission May 6 minutes, and accepted the treasurer’s report. Claims were approved by roll call with Trustees Leif, Breitkreutz and Zieg voting aye and Trustee Banks abstaining.
On public comment, resident Karen Kooyman complained that Potter Repair repeatedly parks in front of her home; the board directed Clerk Pankoke to send Potter Repair a letter including a copy of the applicable ordinances.
Trustees approved Building Permit 24-11 for Rick Wichman to construct a metal storage shed at 101 Dimery Ave. The board also moved to pay volunteer mower Jim Miller $18 per hour for mowing park and ball fields; Trustee Jere Leif will coordinate weekly hours with Maintenance Kohout.
For community events, the board approved by motion the closing of Main Street for Beaver Days on Aug. 3 from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
The meeting concluded with routine clerk and board reports; Clerk Pankoke said she prepared a letter to the Card Service Center to adjust billing cycles to avoid interest charges and will attend the Municipal Accounting and Finance Conference in Lincoln on June 13–14. The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
