Selectmen review roadwork estimates that exceed budget; approve $300 roadside cleanup addition

Selectmen reviewed a set of contractor estimates for summer roadwork that, in several cases, exceed the board’s current budget allocations and agreed to delay authorization for larger projects until a budget workshop.
The town received estimates from R&A Tractor for sweeping ($2,300), bridge repair ($4,000) and pond roadside and boat-launch signage work ($2,640); those figures exceed previously budgeted amounts. Selectmen noted a separate $400 estimate from Nick Pierce for sign work. Main Street paving was reported as due to finish the following day, but no additional spending for sweeping, bridge or roadside projects was authorized pending a budget review.
During the same discussion the board addressed a missed road on the roadside cleanup bid, which serves seven properties. Selectman Ray Hodsdon moved to accept an additional cleanup route at a cost of $300; Selectman Matthew Patneaude seconded and the motion carried 2-0. The town office will send postcards to affected residents.
Board members directed staff to revisit the budget at a workshop to determine whether there is room to fund the remaining estimates or re-bid work.
