Bellechester seeks state aid for lead service line inventory and replacement; six lines remain unknown

Bellechester officials told the council they have applied for additional funds to complete a lead service line inventory and that the state is taking longer than expected to process the request.
City Engineer Matt Mohs said he will keep the council updated on the state’s timeline for the inventory grant. Separately, staff submitted an application that placed the city on a list for lead service line replacement grant funding; additional application work remains and the city must submit a letter to the State in June formally requesting those funds.
The minutes note the city currently has six service lines with unknown materials that staff still need to identify. Council members were told that the city will front planning and bidding costs for replacement work but would be reimbursed if grant funding is awarded.
