Bellechester council approves $49,747.70 sewer payment, hears water‑meter and dust‑control updates

Bellechester — The Bellechester City Council approved Pay Application No. 5 for $49,747.70 for the sewer lining project and received updates on the water‑meter rollout and downtown dust control at its Jan. 15 meeting.
Councilperson Rich Majerus moved to approve Pay Application No. 5; Councilperson Nick Keller seconded and the motion carried. City Engineer Matt Mohs reported that the sewer main line work is complete and only a few service laterals remain, but the project has been paused because of low temperatures.
Mohs also reported that training on the new water‑meter system has been completed, radios and the reading software are working in many locations, and a final pay application will be submitted to close out that project. He said some properties cannot receive meters because installations require a temperature‑controlled location. Billing accounts and prior balances have been entered, and the vendor agreement includes 16 hours of training and assistance as the city transitions to live billing.
Council discussed rising dust in the downtown area and asked AG Partners’ representatives to advise on mitigation. AG Partners’ representatives said they apply chloride in spring and fall and proposed testing more frequent applications, with a May–June trial; they will return with a specific plan for council consideration.
An ADA walkthrough required by RD was reported complete; a small number of accessibility items were identified and a written report will be provided to the council.
Next steps: staff will present the final water‑meter pay application and the AG Partners dust‑control plan when those items are complete; the ADA walkthrough report is forthcoming.
