Council approves short-term road repairs; low bids total about $81,151
Summary
Public works staff recommended awarding short-term repairs: Reinhardt Road Southeast to R.J. Zaval and Sons for $27,360 and a Bigland/Big Lincoln area mill-and-overlay to the same low bidder for $53,791; staff noted overlay thickness will vary and the Reinhardt work is a partial repair pending future annexation.

Mr. Stoall presented two street-repair projects and the low bids for council approval at the June 23 work session.
For the Reinhardt Road Southeast repair, staff described localized frost boils and recommended a targeted repair to extend service life until future development allows more permanent reconstruction. The low quote presented in the minutes was $27,360 to R.J. Zaval and Sons.
For the Bigland/Big Lincoln Road Southeast project, staff recommended milling down to concrete and placing about a 1.5-inch batuminous overlay where appropriate. The low quote in the minutes was $53,791 to R.J. Zaval and Sons; staff noted some areas will require slightly thicker sections depending on the underlying surface.
Why it matters: Both projects address roadway deterioration and aim to extend pavement life at relatively modest near-term cost; Reinhardt Road work is explicitly described as a temporary repair pending future annexation and larger reconstruction.
Next steps: Staff requested award authorization to the low bidders so work can proceed.
