Council approves library landscaping plan and clears Mousehole Days permit with security condition

Melbourne City Council on July 8 approved a landscaping proposal for the Melbourne Library and signed off on the annual Mousehole Days event permit, with conditions.
Friends of the Library representative Hilary Kuhse presented a completed bid from Beeler Lawn & Landscape LLC for landscaping work totaling $16,076.75. According to the proposal, Friends of the Library will contribute $10,076.75 and the library will cover $6,000 from its budget. Council members thanked Kuhse and Library Director Brittany Brewer, who reported increases in 2024 library usage and attendance, and approved moving forward with the project.
Dee Pickard outlined plans for Mousehole Days, scheduled for Aug. 2–4, including a softball tournament, food trucks, a kiddie parade, Little Miss & Mr. Melbourne, a Friday evening pork-burger meal, a kids’ foam machine after the parade, music and a Saturday street dance and car show. Tracey Beals supplied event maps and submitted the outdoor permit. The council approved the permit on a motion by Council member Lucas Hauser, seconded by Council member Gaege Bracy, but made approval conditional: Beals must secure event security and confirm that to the City prior to Aug. 2.
No public opposition was recorded during the meeting. The council did not specify a construction start date for the library landscaping; the funding split and use of library budget funds were stated during Kuhse’s presentation. Further scheduling and contractor coordination were not detailed in the minutes.
